The stalactite resources in Lianzhou Underground River are quite abundant. The stalactites here are lustrous and transparent, with unique shapes, and have high ornamental value.
When Liu Yuxi, a great poet of the Tang Dynasty, visited this cave, he found that there were numerous stalactites in the cave. The sound they made when struck was pleasant, like the simultaneous ringing of ten thousand bells. Therefore, Liu Yuxi called this cave "Ten Thousand Bells Cave". The stalactites in the underground river of Lianzhou are not only extremely numerous but also have even more beautiful shapes. Stalagmites, stone pillars, stone flowers and stone curtains come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, Filled with your imagination.
Stalactites are generally classified into three major categories: those that grow downward from the cave ceiling are called "stalactites"; The ones that grow upwards from the bottom of the cave are called "stalagmites". The "stalactites" and "stalagmites" that are joined together during their growth process are called "stone pillars". Stalactites grow very slowly, at a rate of 1 to 2 millimeters per year when there is dripping water. That is to say, it often takes tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of years to form the landscape we see now.
A day in the cave is a thousand years on the ground. At this moment, we have returned to the Earth billions of years ago. We can reach out and touch the mysterious memories left to us by the universe and nature, and have a spiritual dialogue with the magical stalactites accumulated over billions of years.
The stalactites in Lianzhou not only have aesthetic value but also possess high medicinal value. Liu Yuxi was not only a renowned poet but also a famous doctor. He once ground stalactites from Lianzhou into powder and sent it to Liu Zongyuan, who was then working in Liuzhou, which cured his lung disease. Stalactites not only can treat lung diseases and injuries from all kinds of fatigue, but also are good medicine for unblocking blood vessels. Therefore, as early as the Tang Dynasty, stalactites from Lianzhou were presented as tributes to the imperial court, and their main use was also for medicinal purposes.
